Outdoor Bench

 

Date(s): September 7-8,  2024

 

Time:  9 am to 4 pm.  Lunch is not provided.

 

Where:  Alaska Industrial Hardware Store, 2716 Commercial Drive, Anchorage

 

Class Description:

  1. What you will make: Outdoor Spruce Bench

  2. Tools you will use: Table saw, various hand planes, thickness planer jointer, drill press, electric sanders, handsaws, chisels, scrapers.

  3. Knowledge and skills you will gain: Learn how to make through mortise and tenon joints using a hardwood wedge to secure the joint. Learn basics of various woodworking machines used in project.

  4. Brief woodworking related biography of the instructor: 10 years building houses.Avid do it your selfer.Furniture and cabinet making experience.Musical instrument building.Timber framing experience.

 

Age:  Adults; Young adults 16+

 

Number of Students:  Class size is limited to 4 students

 

Tools and Materials:  All tools are provided.  You do not need to bring any tools.

 

Cost:  $20 materials fee.  $40 shop fee.  Instructors fee $100      Total cost: $160

Bed Frame

Dates: Sat 10/19, Sun 10/20-, Sat 10/26, Sun 10/27

 

Time:  10am to 4 pm.  Lunch is not provided. 

 

Where:  Alaska Industrial Hardware Store, 2716 Commercial Drive, Anchorage

 

Class Description: 

  1. What you will make: A Bed Frame. All students will meet for 2 hours the week before the class at a time and location TBD to discuss the project and decide on the style and size of bed frame each would like to make.  

  2. Tools you will use: Jointer, Planar, Table Saw, Router Table, Miter Saw.

  3. Knowledge and skills you will gain: This project involves large pieces of wood, so there are some challenges there.

  4. Brief woodworking related biography of the instructor: Marc Brown recently relocated from Silicon Valley to Anchorage to be close to his granddaughters. After a career in high tech, Marc began taking woodworking classes at the local adult schools, and has been teaching woodworking at the Palo Alto Adult School for the past 7 years.

Age:  Age does not matter. Experience does. This is not a beginner class. You must have taken 2 ACWA classes.

 

Number of Students:  Class size is limited to 6 students

 

Tools and Materials:  All tools are provided. You do not need to bring any tools. 

Cost:  Students will pay for the wood they use; they can procure it, or reimburse the instructor. There is a a $40 shop fee and a $60 Instructors fee, so the cost to ACWA is $100.
