How to Make a Cabinet Weekend Series Dates: Jan. 11 and 12, 2025 Series Class 1: Construction of the Face Frame Kitchen Base Cabinet Jan. 18 and 19 2025 Series Class 2: Make and Install a Drawer with undermount drawer slides Jan. 25 and 26, 2025 Series Class 3: Make a Frame and Panel Shaker Cabinet Door and drawer face Feb. 1 and 2, 2025 Series Class 4: Build plastic laminate countertop Time: 10am to 4 pm. Lunch is not provided. Where: Alaska Industrial Hardware Store, 2716 Commercial Drive, Anchorage Class Description: 1. What you will make: This series of classes will take you through the step-by-step process of constructing a kitchen base cabinet. The series is designed so that a student may participate in all classes which will lead to finishing a complete cabinet ready for a countertop. Alternatively, a student may pick one or two of the classes to learn to make a specific part that interests them. Prerequisites: Open to all experience levels except those who have never used power tools. Please contact the instructor before registering if you have any questions. 2. Tools you will use: Safety will be the focus as we learn how to effectively use many common shop power tools, including the miter saw, table saw, jointer, planer, router table, hand router, sanders, and track saw. You should come out of this course with improved confidence and competence in your abilities on woodworking machines. 3. Knowledge and skills you will gain: Understanding in basic base cabinet design, confidence to build similar cabinets on your own, the safe use of common power tools, and problem-solving skills. 4. Brief woodworking related biography of the instructors: Bob and Lisa Lackey operate Fishhook Woodworks near Palmer and have been active with the ACWA. Bob is a professional woodworker specializing in custom cabinetry, furniture, built-in units, custom doors, as well as many small projects. Lisa uses a computer to design projects, then cuts and engraves with the laser on wood, leather, acrylic and metal. Bob serves as one of the Woodworker Chapter Directors while Lisa is on the ACWA Executive Committee and the Treasurer. Bob previously taught classes building cabinets, tool chests, benches, and a bookcase. Lisa taught classes making signs, cutting boards, and using the Shaper Origin handheld CNC router.
